Book of the month:Thinking, Fast and Slow

If a baseball bat and a ball cost a total of $1.10, and the bat costs $1 more than the ball, then how much does the ball cost? (Problem from the book)

Daniel Kahneman raises this problem at the very start of Thinking, Fast and Slow to explain clearly how our brain runs in an automatic and lazy way most of the time. We think that we are always conscious and take the decisions because we chose to. But the truth is that our more complex organ sometimes has life on its own. He divides the brain behaviour into two systems. System 1 which is fast, intuitive, and emotional and System 2 the slower one, more deliberative, and more logical. One of the interesting insight is how System 2, despite being the one you’d think is the cleverest, is lazy and believes whatever system 1 says.

Thinking, Fast and Slow will transform the way you think about thinking.

What did I love about this book?

Daniel Kahneman writes in an engaging manner and it is an eye-opener into how humans thinking. The concepts are explained well and most of the times it grasps your attention. It’s very interesting how we take the decisions and how we keep making, as humans, the same mistakes.

What did find annoying about this book?

At times the concepts are a bit difficult to follow or you might need to research information in order to understand what Daniel tries to explain.

Overall I give it ****

I give to this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the read and I definitely recommend it. It’s one of those books that will change the way you see things and there will be a before and after feeling.

By the way, the answer to the first question is not $0.10. If that was what you thought your System 2 laziness tricked you again!
